Our Rules
The well-being of our cats is our highest priority, and therefore we have some rules to protect them (and you!)
By visiting, you agree to follow our cat care rules and any guidance given by staff. While we trust you’ll respect these guidelines, please note that anyone found breaking them may be asked to leave.
Rules For The Café
Let Sleeping Cats Lie
No one likes being rudely awoken, and neither do our cats. If a cat is dozing then leave them be, they will come and play when they are ready.
Do Not Pick The Cats Up
Do not chase, pull or pick up any of the cats. Cats are sensitive and can be easily hurt from handling techniques that aren't recommended by vets, so we ask that you only let staff with the appropriate training pick the cats up.
Keeping Clean
Please use the provided sanitiser regularly and ask for plastic shoe coverings if your shoes are particularly dirty on the way in to the café. We have a rigorous cleaning schedule to keep the café clean for the benefit of both our customers and our cats.
Human Food For Humans
Please don't feed your human food to the cats, it's not good for them and encourages challenging behaviour to manage! We have a system in place that delivers food to our tables and allows the collection of empty plates in the most efficient manner possible, but we still suggest you do not leave your plates unattended. Our resident cats are pretty well-behaved but they still have a mischievous nature!
Flashing Lights
We love it when you want to take photos of our lovely café and amazing cats, but please make sure your flash is off - sudden bright lights can startle our furry friends.
If you have any photos feel free to tag them under #pussinbooks on social media as we'd love to see them!
No Outside Toys/Food
Please do not bring in toys or treats from home to give to the cats. It may seem innocent enough, but a lot of toys made for cats can actually end up being harmful if not made according to specific standards. We take great care in securing the quality our toys, furniture and food, all having been given the go-ahead by a veterinary specialist. If you have some donations then please speak to a member of staff who will be able to process them before they go out on the floor.
Children
We allow children who are aged 12+ into the café. Children must demonstrate the same adherence to the café rules as any other customer, and parents are expected to prepare them appropriately for sensible behaviour in the café and with the animals.
No Animal Guests
We have plenty of furry friends here already, please do not bring in your own from home. We spent a long time making sure every member of our cat family got along, but springing a surprise guest on them will likely result in a lot of stress. If you wish to bring a guide dog into the café then please speak to us in advance.
